Author Barbara Linn Probst had quite an exciting year with her debut novel, QUEEN of The OWLS (SheWritesPress). Barbara must have had a fantastic marketing team, because I saw the book everywhere. Apparently readers did too because there were quite a few copies sold. Isn't the Georgia O'Keefe inspired cover absolutely gorgeous? Many reviewers called it a book, "women should read." I'm glad I did.

Barbara has a new novel coming out in April 2021, THE SOUND BETWEEN THE NOTES. The cover is equally beautiful. It's available for pre-order on Amazon or at your favorite independent book store.

When I prepared for the April publication of QUEEN OF THE OWLS, I had no idea what April 2020 would be like. The reality of COVID had just hit, and all the launch events I'd worked so hard to set up were canceled. I had a choice: feel terrible, or put on my Big Girl Pants and pivot. 

Luckily, I was able to do the latter. And I received an enormous gift in return. The Facebook community opened its arms to debut authors like me, offering virtual platforms, online author interviews, and every kind of special event. I was overwhelmed by the generosity I encountered everywhere.

At first, I felt uncomfortable with the idea of being excited about my debut novel. With so much suffering, how could I possibly rave about my book?  But here was the second gift: a deep understanding of how important stories are, and always have been. They are sources of healing, renewal, growth, and connection. I felt so fortunate to be able to offer mine.  And what a joy to continue to hear from new readers who've found QUEEN OF THE OWLS and been so deeply touched!

My wish for 2021 is that we begin to heal, as a community, and find strength in the things that unite us, including our love of books. I hope that my new book THE SOUND BETWEEN THE NOTES will contribute to that—it's the story, told through the eyes of a musician, of the search for family, connection, and belonging.

    My hope for 2021 is that the pandemic end soon, as well as the violence, hatred, overt prejudices and divisiveness of the recent past.
