WIDOWISH by Melissa Gould - Spotlight & Giveaway

Grieving is a journey and it doesn’t just end. One may feel physical, mental, social even spiritual loss. The way we grieve is very unique to each individual and should not be rushed. The worst thing you can say to a person grieving is “you’ll get over it.” How do you know? What if this person doesn’t? You should offer a welcoming ear and listen. Melissa Gould has written a memoir, WIDOWISH (LittleA) about grieving outside the box and the surprising nature of love.

When Melissa Gould’s husband, Joel, was unexpectedly hospitalized, she could not imagine how her life was about to change. Overwhelmed with uncertainty as Joel’s condition tragically worsened, she offered him the only thing she could: her love and devotion. Her dedication didn’t end with his death.

Left to resume life without her beloved husband and raise their young daughter on her own, Melissa soon realized that her and Joel’s love lived on. Melissa found she didn’t fit the typical mold of widowhood or meet the expectations of mourning. She didn’t look like a widow or act like a widow, but she felt like one. Melissa was widowish.

Melissa’s personal journey through grief and beyond includes unlikely inspiration from an evangelical preacher, the calming presence of some Real Housewives, and the unexpected attention of a charming musician.

A modern take on loss, Widowish illuminates the twists of fate that break our world, the determination that keeps us moving forward, and the surprises in life we never see coming.

Melissa Gould's essays have appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, and more. She's an award-winning screenwriter whose credits include Bill Nye, the Science Guy; Party of Five; Beverly Hills, 90210; and Lizzie McGuire. As a "mompreneur" she appeared on the Rachael Ray Show, Access Hollywood and other "info-tainment" programs. Her book, Widowish, a memoir, will be available via LittleA Books on February 1, 2021. 1. Yes, I have experienced grief. I got through it by carrying on, one step in front. Of the other.

  2. I have experienced grief. I honestly can’t say you ever get over it. My experience has been it’s up and down. You learn to adjust but the ache is always there. Thank you kindly.

  3. I have experienced grief and continue to experience it, even though it’s been over 4 years since my loss. My father passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 78 on October 17, 2016. We were extremely close, dining together for lunch every week, often traveling up to an hour to experience new, exotic cuisines. We also saw each other on many other occasions, but this was our usual, special time. I was his 21st birthday present, being born on his birthday February 1, 1961. Each year on my birthday since has been particularly difficult without him.

  5. Yes, I have experienced grief, as I am sure most people have. You just continue on with your life and remember your loved ones.
