THE TRUTH and OTHER HIDDEN THINGS by Lea Geller - Review & Giveaway

Forty-something year old Belle (Elsbeth) Walker's life is about to blow-up. She finds out she's preggers because her IUD failed and her husband, Harry hasn't gotten tenure, so they're going to have to leave the Manhattan with their two children. In Lea Geller's new novel, THE TRUTH AND OTHER HIDDEN THINGS (LakeUnionPublishing) change can be complicated and scary.

Bells, Harry, Alice and Sam make a move that was never in their plans. They have to leave the Upper West side, so Harry can take a much needed job in Dutchess County, New York. It's only an hour from the city, but it feels like a different planet. Harry jumps into his new job as part of the literature faculty, Alice lands the lead role in her middle school play and Sam navigates junior year in a new high school. Bells has lost her job writing for a city neighborhood paper and finds herself without a purpose, lonely and surrounded by a group of local women she doesn't feel like she has anything in common with.

What's a woman to do? Start an anonymous blog that gossips about everything she finds annoying in Dutchess County. She coins herself "The Dutchess" and soon her stories are picked up by a city paper and go viral. Her readers love her snarky stories, but the locals, not so much.

You'll have to read THE TRUTH AND OTHER HIDDEN THINGS to find out how it all turns out for Bells, but lets just say, life gets really, really troublesome. It's laugh out loud funny, but there are some well placed lessons for all of us to embrace. The story is about finding your own way, learning to believe you are good enough and trusting yourself and others. It's an easy read. Curl up with it one afternoon and enjoy.

LEA GELLER, recipient of the 2019 Kathryn Gurfein Writing Fellowship at Sarah Lawrence College, lives in New York with her husband and five children, for whom she frequently wakes up and makes five separate breakfasts. Lea began her writing career by blogging about her adventures in the trenches of parenting and got the idea for her first novel, Trophy Life, when her two sons were in middle school. When Lea’s not writing and eavesdropping on her children, she can be found running, drinking diner coffee, and occasionally teaching middle-school English. She is a graduate of Columbia University and Stanford Law School.
