THE SEASONS of GRACE by Dave O. Dodge - Review & Giveaway

"If I'm a lousy writer then an awful lot of people have lousy taste." Grace Metalious

Grace Metalious was writing shocking stories in the 1950s that were scandalous, but women couldn't devour them fast enough. THE SEASONS of GRACE (IdeationNationLLC) by Dave O. Dodge is the unauthorized backstory of Peyton Place. Do I need to explain what Peyton Place was/is? I never read or watched it, but my mother whispered about it to her friends.

THE SEASONS of GRACE is the story of how Grace Metalious created a fictional young housewife and mother of three children living in small-town America with an attitude of small-town life. Grace was born in New Hampshire and went on to become a literary sensation. It's a story within a story.

THE SEASONS of GRACE is shocking and dark. Grace's real life was as complicated as the characters she created. It was nearly impossible for a women to get published in the 50s and once she achieved mega success, it wasn't all peaches and cream. Despite telling her neighbors the book was fiction, they thought she was writing about their lives and she became the enemy. Like the many of the characters in her books, she was an alcoholic, smoked, a financial mess, neglected her children, home and divorced.

One out of every 29 Americans had read Peyton Place. This novel was a true sensation in both the literary world and helped form popular culture. The legacy is lastly and continues to this day. It's a great story from page one until the very end.

Born and raised in New Hampshire, Dave has always had a wanderlust for travel and adventure. From a young age his desire to expand his world beyond New England has brought him around the globe and back. His career has been as diverse as his travels.

He has always had a passion for the arts, from community theater, local television and film work to writing. This has been his secret obsession and hobby hobby. His professional background has run the gambit from Visual Arts to Public Relations and Marketing.

As a travel writer and international guide, he currently makes his home in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. http://daveododge.com/

  12. I work at the used bookstore at our library and not long ago someone donated an old copy of Peyton Place. It was a hardcover, so it wasn’t in terrible shape. I’ll check to see if it’s still on the shelf. If so, I’ll read it. I want to read Peyton Place before I read this book. Of course, that is assuming I win it. :-) bethvollbach@(deletethis)sbcglobal.net
